Weekly Update

1:30am and the Butt Machine is shouting at me. The alarm is intermittent and whilst not terribly loud it’s tone is annoying. I’m still half asleep as the alarm continues to shout but the sound doesn’t register but when it did I feared that there was a leak in the vacuum. Thankfully the charging cable hadn’t been fitted correctly so the battery was running low and there was no leak. But, at the same time I realised that my colostomy bag was full. 

After 8 months my issues with the Ken Butt have continued and it doesn’t look like they will be resolving themselves without intervention.

For over 7 months the Ken Butt has been a right pain in the butt. It’s stubbornly not healing and may appear to be getting slightly worse with the wounds tunnelling inside.

Six months have flown by. I’ve learned a lot in that time but feel as though there’s so much more to learn. My journey with a stoma has been an interesting one – it’s been rewarding, a huge learning curve and I feel as though I’ve got a long way to go before being an ostomate-master, if I ever will become one!

20 weeks? I can’t believe that it’s been 20 weeks since the installation of My New Bum. Apart from the ongoing Ken Butt issues and the parastomal hernia, everything has gone really well and I’m still glad that I had the operation.

It’s been over 17 weeks since my surgery and it’s been a while since I posted an update. Here’s how I’ve been getting on.

It’s almost three months since surgery and it’s time for a second follow up appointment. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this appointment due to the Ken Butt taking so long to heal. Whilst the nurses I see on a daily basis are doing a fantastic job, a specialist really needed to see them to check everything was ok.
