It’s amazing what some hardcore antibiotics can do! Yesterday afternoon I was given a single dose of Gentamicin, aka the Domestos of antibiotics, and started on a course of Tazocin, aka the Dettol of antibiotics. In addition to these two I was still taking Metronidazole. My specialist clearly wanted to eliminate this infection as soon as possible.

By the evening my temperature had dropped to a more normal 37.5C and during the night reduced further to 37.1C. For the first time since being in hospital I managed to get some proper sleep.

By morning my temperature was now 36.3C and I was feeling much better. Having a temperature for four days had really gotten me down and waking up feeling more normal gave me a huge boost. The draining of my wound prior to having the antibiotics also meant that I could sit more comfortably.

My specialist was delighted how I had responded to the treatment and has given me the all clear to go home tomorrow! Just one more day of some more antibiotics to make sure everything is killed off and then it’s home to recover in a more comfortable environment.
